Cactus Plant Care
Caring for a cactus indoors is relatively straightforward compared to many other houseplants, thanks to their ability to thrive in arid conditions. However, specific needs must be met to keep your cactus healthy and growing. Here’s a detailed guide:
Sunlight
- Bright, Direct Light: Cacti thrive in bright, direct sunlight. Place your cactus in a south or west-facing window where it can receive at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. If natural light is insufficient, consider using a grow light.
Watering
- Infrequent Watering: Cacti are adapted to dry conditions and do not need frequent watering. Water your cactus thoroughly, but allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the growing season (spring and summer), water every 2-4 weeks. In the dormant season (fall and winter), reduce watering to once a month or even less.
- Watering Method: Water deeply until water runs out of the drainage holes, then empty the saucer to avoid root rot.
Humidity
- Low Humidity: Cacti prefer low humidity environments, similar to their natural desert habitat. Avoid placing your cactus in high humidity areas, such as bathrooms or kitchens.
Temperature
- Warm Temperatures: Maintain a temperature range of 21-32°C during the growing season and 10-18°C during the dormant season. Avoid exposing your cactus to freezing temperatures or cold drafts.
